In 1981 the Director General of the Musei Vaticani (Vatican Museums), Prof. C. Petrangeli, upon request of the Museo Gregoriano Egizio (Gregorian Museum of Egyptology), directed by Prof. G.Nolli, commissioned Prof. Antonio Basile, founder and director of the Laboratorio del Papiro della Villa d'Este (Villa d'Este Papyrus Laboratory) in Tivoli, to restore the "Libro per uscire alla Luce del Giorno" ("Book for Coming Out into the Light of Day"), a papyrus specimen measuring a full eleven metres in length, which has received the plaudits of eminent scholars for the quality of the support produced and for the absolute faithfulness of the hieratic writing. The graphic realisation of certain scenes necessitated an on-site examination of papyri conserved at the British Museum in London, as well as the collaboration of the Centro Internazionale Documenti Storici, Artistici e Papiracei (International Centre for Historic, artistic and Papyrus Documents) in Rome, while laboratory analyses were performed with the collaboration of the Gabinetti di Ricerche Scientifiche dei Musei Vaticani (Scientific Research Laboratories of the Vatican Museums).
